Should the 76ers trade Ben Simmons this offseason?

I totally understand the idea of trading Ben Simmons and while this definitely could be in play for the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason, they would be much better off keeping him at least another year. Figuring out how he can better himself in the offseason and working with him sends a strong message to the rest of the league that the 76ers will not and do not give up on their players.

Reputation is a powerful source around this league and is something that every single player takes note of about every single franchise. Giving up on Simmons now not only sends a message to the rest of the league that the 76ers give up on their players if they do not like what they see in them, but it sends a message to the future talent of this league and future All-Star free agents that their time in Philadelphia could be short-lived if they do not succeed immediately.

This is definitely not the kind of reputation the 76ers franchise wants to have and while championship teams over the years have flipped around a bunch of players and added new talents to their team in order to win, all of them have always had a core that they have worked with.

The Warriors, Raptors and Spurs have been a few of the championship teams over the years that have made plenty of moves and traded away plenty of key players to build a championship caliber team, but the one thing they all have in common is that the majority of their team was drafted and they developed their players into all-around great talents.

This is what the Philadelphia 76ers need to be focused on in regards to Ben Simmons instead of giving up on him. His talents as a facilitator and as a defender are way above-average in this league and he still has the potential to be one of the best players in this league, which is why giving up on him would be a mistake.

Working with Simmons in the offseason to better his skills on the offensive-end of the court presents a much better opportunity for success than trading him does, which is why the Philadelphia 76ers would be smart to give Ben Simmons one more season to prove that he can be better for this team.

Regardless of whether or not he improved, Ben Simmons is young enough and talented enough that his market will always be high and the potential of trading him will always exist for the 76ers. Giving him another chance to redeem himself and remain a part of their championship plans could ultimately prove to be the best move the 76ers could make as an organization.
