Making the case for the 76ers to keep Ben Simmons

Trading Ben Simmons definitely has its perks, but so does keeping Simmons. He struggled tremendously in the playoffs and definitely still has parts of his game that he needs to improve, but he is only 24-years-old and is still growing as a player.

The best thing about Simmons from the 76ers’ point of view is that he is young and they have plenty of time to help him reach his full potential. The biggest thing that has hurt Simmons to this point in his career is that he came out of college being compared to some All-Time greats and was put in arguably the most volatile market in the league in Philadelphia.

Expectations for this franchise and particularly this fan-base is so high that they expect their team to contend and win a championship every single year. With Joel Embiid as their star player and guys like Tobias Harris and Seth Curry around him, the Sixers are definitely one of the top teams in the league, but to expect a championship from this group every single year is ridiculous.

Ben Simmons is a big part of the Sixers’ developmental process and their championship-contending philosophy, so trading him could really screw up the chemistry on this team and screw up what they have built over the last decade or so.

Getting in the gym with Ben Simmons over the summer and working on little things to help him become a better player on the offensive-end of the court is all the 76ers need to be focused on right now and for Simmons, he should be just as motivated to be better. He knows he needs to be better and he owned up to his mistakes after the Game 7 loss, yet it seems like the Sixers’ fan base has given up on him.

Keeping Simmons may not be what the fans want, but in the grand scheme of things, this is probably the best thing the Sixers can do. Sure, trading for him can bring in a ton of value, but does getting rid of Ben Simmons really make the Philadelphia 76ers a much better overall team?

His value defensively to this team is tremendous and his ability to create opportunities to others cannot be matched by anybody else on this roster, so if the 76ers were to trade Ben Simmons because of his flaw on offense, they could be sacrificing a lot of success in other areas of the game that they have been great in.
