After missing the playoffs for the first time since 1997 last year, the San Antonio Spurs missed the playoffs again this season, marking the first-time in the Spurs 54-year history as an NBA organization that they have missed the playoffs for consecutive seasons.
Now, with DeMar DeRozan and Rudy Gay set to become free agents this offseason, the Spurs could be hitting the reset button and looking to continue building with their young core group of players. Guys like Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Lonnie Walker IV and Keldon Johnson make up the young group for the Spurs and they are not far off from being something special.

If DeRozan does leave in NBA free agency, then the Spurs will have some massive holes to fill in terms of adding more talent to their roster, which is why they could be willing to part ways with some of their young talent.
Derrick White just finished up his fourth season with the Spurs and while he put together a solid season, averaging 15.4 points, 3.5 assists and shooting 34.6% from three-point range, he only played in 36 games due to injuries and was never able to put together the breakout season like many believed he could.

With him under contract through the 2024-25 season after agreeing to a four-year rookie extension worth $68M in December of 2020, Derrick White could be a guy the Spurs could look to unload in the offseason if they can get a good sized package in return.
In a recent article, Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report came up with a trade proposal involving the Spurs and Buck that would involve Derrick White and another young player from the Spurs for a handful of talent and some draft compensation. Let’s take a look at what this trade looks like.
