New York Knicks Receive: G D’Angelo Russell

Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G Immanuel Quickley, F Kevin Knox II, 2021 first-round pick (via New York Knicks), 2023 first-round pick (via Dallas Mavericks)

The New York Knicks will have cap space to put to use this NBA offseason but there aren’t high-level superstars that will be available for them to land. Unless, of course, someone like Kawhi Leonard were randomly to decide to want to play for them, which…is extremely unlikely given the circumstances.

New York would benefit from getting a franchise point guard to stabilize their starting five and elevate the ceiling of their offensive output. So far, it hasn’t been enough to keep pace with the Atlanta Hawks, let alone the elite teams of the Eastern Conference.

D’Angelo Russell’s contract isn’t set to expire until the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, but that shouldn’t prevent the Timberwolves from trying to deal him. The Timberwolves could get a great haul of talent in return and the Knicks could be the team that gives them that value.

This trade gives both sides exactly what they’re looking for in terms of talent, and it’s a very fair deal between two competitive rosters. Let’s take a look at how this trade directly impacts each team directly.
