Last season, Ja Morant, Jonas Valanciunas, and the Memphis Grizzlies came up just short of making the playoffs, losing to the Portland Trail Blazers in the 8-seed vs. 9-seed play-in game. Now, this season, the Grizzlies currently find themselves in the playoffs facing off against the No. 1 seeded Utah Jazz. On the other hand, the New Orleans Pelicans ended up missing the playoffs.
While they were been up-and-down all season long, the Grizzlies are definitely a team that nobody wants to play in the postseason for a couple of reasons. Not only do they have one of the most athletic guards in the league in Ja Morant, but the Grizzlies have multiple ways to beat their opponents.
The best part about this year’s Grizzlies team is that they do not really have a “go-to” guy. Much like the Miami Heat last year who made it all the way to the NBA Finals, this team plays by having multiple guys step up at various times to knock down a big shot.
Memphis has seven players averaging double-figure scoring this season and they are a team who can play 10-11 guys deep in some games. Everybody on the roster has a role and with them basically fully healthy, they are a tough team to beat.
The Grizzlies are building something special, but will they look to make some roster changes in the offseason if they fail to reach the first-round of the playoffs once again? Let’s take a look at a hypothetical offseason trade presented by Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz that would send both Jonas Valanciunas and Kyle Anderson to the New Orleans Pelicans in the offseason.
