The progression of the Bulls’ efforts to return to competitiveness will require making an addition of a veteran point guard. There will be a variety of options between Kyle Lowry, Lonzo Ball, Mike Conley, Dennis Schroder, and Spencer Dinwidde. However, taking a chance on John Wall is another option that could pay off significantly if it were to pan out.
Coby White is a fine young player that can be a complementary scoring option, but he doesn’t have the skill-set of a lead guard that can orchestrate a half-court offense. A win-now team would benefit from bringing him off-the-bench as opposed to relying on him as a top point guard option.
With a center who is quite frankly a liability as a rim protector, it’s important for the Bulls to surround him with speed. Even after a few major injuries, the athleticism that Wall brings to the game is undeniable and would be a real asset for Chicago.
The Washington Wizards are a strong example of what can occur when you take a chance on a veteran talent with how Russell Westbrook has been playing. They have managed to work their way into position to compete for a playoff spot using the NBA Play-In Tournament. Could John Wall help the Bulls to achieve the same?
