DeMar DeRozan – San Antonio Spurs*
*Pending Unrestricted Free Agent
Ever since NBA free agency last season, many around the league have been asking about DeMar DeRozan and what the future holds for him. DeRozan was traded to the Spurs ahead of the start of the 2018-19 season when Kawhi Leonard was traded to the Raptors. Since then, the 4x All-Star has been the focal point of the San Antonio Spurs and their best player over the last three seasons.
It seems like DeRozan is always a guy that is overlooked and not appreciated for what he truly does. With the Spurs, DeMar DeRozan has been a floor general offensively and a key force for them defensively, as he is a really underrated one-on-one defender.

This season with the Spurs, DeMar DeRozan is averaging a career-high 7.2 assists per game and is shooting just under 50% from the floor. There are plenty of championship-contending teams that inquired about the availability of DeRozan at the NBA trade deadline this season and that interest is expected to carry over into the offseason.
For the Mavericks, they have a huge need for a reliable wing/forward and given DeRozan’s accolades, he could immediately be an impactful, veteran player to help turn this team into a true title contending team being the No. 2 option next to Luka Doncic.
With three All-Star talents on their roster, the Mavericks would have the firepower they need to match up against some of the better teams in the league and given what DeMar DeRozan can do for them defensively, the Mavericks would be getting an experienced all-around talent that is ready to win immediately.
DeRozan is going to be a highly sought after unrestricted free agent this offseason, so the Mavericks would likely have to spend all of their cap space on DeMar DeRozan, but this move would surely put the Mavericks in title contention out West.
