No. 3. Houston Rockets add Kevin Porter Jr. (Jan. 22, 2021)
One of the key additions of this season that flew under-the-radar at first was when the Houston Rockets traded for Kevin Porter Jr. Cleveland had made him available, as they were tired of dealing with his antics and off-the-court problems, so the Houston Rockets decided to take a chance on the young guard.
Assistant coach John Lucas took command of Porter Jr. when he arrived in Houston and has been working with him since to not only improve his skills on the court, but to help him mentally off-the-court. Lucas has worked with several NBA and NFL personnel over the years to help them as a counselor and he has been very successful in helping change athlete’s lives for the better when they are facing adversity in their life.
He has done the same with Kevin Porter Jr. and in 16 games in Houston this season, KPJ has been sensational. The young guard has averaged 15.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists and has shot 42.4% from the floor, making him a young talent that has a big future with the Rockets.
This trade was a win for Kevin Porter Jr. as he got the help and guidance he needed with John Lucas, but this trade was also a win for the Rockets because they got a young, high-level player with a lot of potential to help them as they rebuild their team.
