New Orleans Pelicans Receive: G Malcolm Brogdon, UTA 2021 2nd Round Pick (via IND), MIL 2021 2nd Round Pick (via IND)

Indiana Pacers Receive: G Eric Bledsoe, G Nickeil Alexander-Walker, NOP 2023 1st Round Pick (Top-10 Protected)

Not only would the Pelicans have to free up a little bit of cap space to bring in Brogdon, but they would likely have to trade both Eric Bledsoe and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, two key players in their backcourt. This offseason, Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart are expected to be free agents, which is why the Pelicans will have to free up some cap space.

They want to bring back both Ball and Hart on long-term deals, but bringing in Brogdon could definitely complicate things for the Pelicans financially. However, his type of talent paired up with Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson could definitely make for something special in New Orleans.

Going back to the Pacers value in this trade, Eric Bledsoe is definitely a valuable two-way player that they could utilize, but Nickeil Alexander-Walker holds a ton of value right now for any team in the league. He is only 22-years-old and this season, he has shown flashes of his full potential.

With Ball, Bledsoe and other missing time in the Pelicans backcourt this year, Alexander-Walker has stepped up into a much bigger role and has put on a show in some games. Since the start of March, Alexander-Walker has scored in double-figures in 11 of the 14 games he has played in, including four games scoring 20+ points.

At 6’6”, Nickeil Alexander-Walker has all the potential to be a fantastic scoring guard in this league and someone that could definitely grow into a role similar to that of Brogdon’s with the Pacers. Not to mention, Indiana gets a future first-round pick in this deal that they could really use moving forward.

There is definitely a lot of value to be had in this trade for both teams, but does this deal truly make sense for both the Pelicans and the Pacers? Let’s take a look!
