This three-team offseason trade features Russell Westbrook to Clippers

Does this trade make sense for the Washington Wizards?

If they can get Russell Westbrook off their books, then any trade involving him would be a major win for the Washington Wizards. After trading for him prior to the start of the season, there was a lot of hype surrounding the Wizards and their potential, but nothing has seemed to work out for this team this year because of the fact that they have no talents on their roster outside of Westbrook, Beal and Hachimura.

As a result, even if they keep Russ through the end of his contract, they are in no position to contend in the Eastern Conference. This is why they should trade Westbrook this offseason and try to find ways to continue building around Bradley Beal. That will be the key scenario to monitor in NBA trade rumors.

Getting Pat Bev would be a nice fit next to Beal in the backcourt, but it is the supporting cast that they get that could be a big positive for them moving forward. Luke Kennard and Daniel Oturu are two younger talents that could definitely play a role for the Wizards moving forward and getting a second-round pick this year allows them to try and draft even more young talent.

For a team that has nothing going for them, freeing up a ton of cap space and getting some key role players and young talents is definitely worthwhile. The only question is whether or not the Wizards are willing to give up on Russell Westbrook after just one season, especially given the high-level he has been playing at.
