Why this trade makes sense for the Detroit Pistons

With Jerami Grant and Mason Plumlee, the Pistons have two experienced leaders on their team to lead one of the youngest rosters in the league, but they are still missing some key scoring options to be a real threat. Bringing in Buddy Hield would be a really solid move for them not only because of what he can do offensively, but because of his contract.

Hield is under contract through the 2023-24 season as mentioned earlier, giving the Pistons plenty of time to have him and Grant paired up with their young core. Detroit would not have to worry about expiring contracts for some of their better players and they could solely focus on continuing to develop their young talents and drafting more high-level young talents.

Jerami Grant has had a fantastic breakout season with the Pistons and is the cornerstone of their franchise, but in order for them to continue growing into what could be a really solid team in the East, they will need to continue surrounding him with high-level talents.

Buddy Hield would fit in perfectly because he is not a ball-dominant player and would do wonders for the Pistons offensively because of his ability to space the floor and his ability to knock down catch-and-shoot jumpers from anywhere on the court.

In terms of longevity and money being tied down, his contract is not great since he is owed $85M through the 2023-24 season, but in the sense of the Pistons needing to focus their attention on their youth, this is a really solid deal for them.

Overall, if the Pistons are looking to make a move in the offseason to bring in another high-level talent to pair with Grant on the wing, then Buddy Hield is definitely a player they should take a long look at. At the expense of waiving Cory Joseph, they could potentially add one of the more lethal shooters in the league to their roster.
