This Heat-Timberwolves offseason trade is centered on D’Angelo Russell

Does this trade make sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves?

Trading D’Angelo Russell may be a really good move for the Timberwolves this offseason, but trading him for Dragic and Iguodala may not be the best move. Both guys are veteran players and will be in the final year of their contracts next season, which is why the only long-term value the Timberwolves get out of this trade is a first-round pick in 2026.

That pick may have some value to it, but ultimately, it is too far away for the T-Wolves to want to consider. They need immediate help if they are to trade Russell and unless they are getting a slew of young players or high-level talents in return, they will not be interested in any deal.

They gave up a former #1 overall pick in Andrew Wiggins and a very valuable first-round pick in 2021 to get Russell, so they are not going to give up on him too easily. While they may still entertain offers this offseason for D’Angelo Russell, the Timberwolves want to see their young team at full strength, which is why getting him back and healthy is their number one goal right now.

With a young core of Russell, Towns, Edwards, Beasley and McDaniels, the Timberwolves definitely have a ton of talent, now all they need to do is be healthy and execute. This team has the potential to grow into something special, but it will take time and most importantly, to have everyone on the court at the same time.

Losing has become a way of life for the Timberwolves over the years, but change is right on the horizon. With a new head coach and a new season, things could start to come together for this team, but definitely expect them to be active this offseason, potentially shaking up things roster wise.
