The Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic have been two of the most active teams ahead of the NBA trade deadline this year. With that in mind, it is fitting that they came together on a trade. Evan Fournier will be headed to the Celtics to provide Boston with some much-needed depth.
According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Celtics and Magic have agreed to a trade that will send Fournier to Boston in exchange for two second-round picks.
Fournier is a big-time addition for a Celtics team that has been needing some new life. He isn’t a star, but he won’t be asked to be one. Boston will simply need him to shoot the ball well and provide an extra scoring option.
So far this season with the Magic, Fournier has put up big numbers across the board. He has averaged 19.7 points per game to go along with 3.7 assists and 2.9 rebounds. Fournier has shot 46.1 percent from the floor overall and has knocked down 38.8 percent of his three-point attempts.
At 28 years old, Evan Fournier is finally able to play for a contender. He has been stuck in mediocrity with the Magic for far too long.
It will be interesting to see how Fournier looks with his new opportunity. This situation has to be one that he is excited about. The Celtics are certainly excited about being able to bring in a player of his caliber for such a low price.
Danny Ainge has been working the phone lines with the Magic. While this trade isn’t as big as bringing Aaron Gordon in would have been, it is still a move that will help them in a big way moving forward.
Expect to continue hearing the Celtics and Magic mentioned in trade rumors. The NBA trade deadline is just a few hours away and both teams are going to remain open to making moves at the right price.
