Why This Trade Would Benefit The New Orleans Pelicans
The New Orleans Pelicans have been getting strong individual production from both Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson but that has not translated to wins. New Orleans has been irrelevant in the Western Conference in terms of the standings but has some star power so eyes continue to be on them. This is not a deal that will win them a championship but they would be able to make a decision later on.
Kyle Lowry is owed $27 million this season. At 34-years old, he will not demand another expensive contract so it will be interesting to see what happens when he hits free agency. At this point in his career, it is likely that he wants to play for a contender.
Right now, that is not the Pelicans. Who knows if they would take a step with Kyle Lowry running the show. He is still playing the game at a high level averaging 17.8 points and shooting 38.6% from the three-point line. If the Pelicans do not want to sign Lowry, they will still be able to get rid of some of their veterans.

New Orleans has a lot of work to do if they want to take the next step towards competing. The Western Conference is only getting better and the Pelicans are already starting from way behind.
