Why this trade makes sense for the Philadelphia 76ers

Entering the year, it seemed like this could be the best chance the Philadelphia 76ers have to win a championship given the struggles other top teams in the Eastern Conference had, but after the Nets made the move to add James Harden, the Sixers’ championship window has begun to close.

They still hold the top record in the East and still have the MVP front-runner in Joel Embiid, but with him now being out due to a knee injury, the Sixers will need to bring in another high-level talent if they are to remain the team to beat in the East. The 76ers are a great team, but we have never seen anything like the Nets before in terms of total offensive production, which is why Philly may need Kyle Lowry more than it appears.

If the 76ers are to make the most of this season and make a legit push for the NBA Finals, then they have to add another All-Star player to their roster and Kyle Lowry makes a lot of sense. Ben Simmons is the only reliable ball-handler and facilitator on this year’s 76ers team, which is why Kyle Lowry could join this team and immediately make an impact.

Not only can he score 20+ points on any given night, but Lowry has turned himself into a great facilitator. Since the start of the 2018-19 season, Lowry is averaging about 7.8 assists per game and has adapted to those around him. He may not be the dynamic scorer he once was, but he can still knock down big shots and be a great floor general for his team.

Not to mention, Lowry is a very underrated defender and can help the 76ers on that end of the court as well. He has averaged above a steal per game in every season since 2010 and could help turn the 76ers into a Top-10, possibly even a Top-8 defensive team in the league.

Losing Danny Green and Seth Curry may weaken the 76ers in terms of perimeter shooting and overall depth on the wing, but there is no denying that the addition of Kyle Lowry makes the 76ers the team to beat in the Eastern Conference. Their starting five would be so powerful on the offensive end of the court that they would be virtually impossible to guard.

By making this move, the 76ers signify that they are all-in on trying to win a championship this year with Joel Embiid playing at an MVP level and will do what it takes to do so. This is the best move that Philly could make before this year’s trade deadline.
