Does this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?
Jahlil Okafor is hurt right now, as he underwent a knee procedure in early February, and he has played very minimal minutes when he was healthy, so why not trade him for future assets if you are the Pistons?
When he is healthy, it is not like Okafor brings a lot of value to Detroit, which is why trading him for a future second-round pick could be beneficial. As stated earlier, both Mason Plumlee and Isaiah Stewart have been great for the Pistons at the center position this year, which is why they have no use for Okafor anymore.
They signed him this past offseason to a minimal two-year deal, giving the Pistons all the leverage contractually, but they do not have a use for him when he does return. Okafor is nothing more than an end-of-the-bench player for the Pistons in their rotation and while he could still see some playing time, it is not like he is going to win them games.

If the Lakers want Okafor and/or express interest in him, the Pistons should be willing to accept anything for the former No. 3 overall pick since he is coming off of a knee injury and does not have a set role with them anymore.
