Does this trade make sense for the Washington Wizards?
Russell Westbrook is a great overall basketball player, hence why he is a former league MVP, but at the end of the day, the Wizards are not going to be able to win with him. Until this team surrounds both Beal and Westbrook with talent, they are not going to be anything special and with these two eating up about $70M in cap space, it is almost impossible for Washungton to surround their two stars with solid role players.
Trading Westbrook now could definitely bring a ton of value to the Wizards not only because they can free up a lot of cap space, but they can finally get Beal the help he needs that way he does not request a trade.
Otto Porter Jr. is in the final year of his contract, freeing up just below $30M in cap space for the Wizards to play around with in free agency next offseason, and would be nothing more than cap relief for the Wizards this season. Coby White and Lauri Markkanen however can be two building blocks for this team to pair with Bradley Beal to hopefully build something special.

With not much talent on their roster, getting two very solid, young players would definitely be beneficial for the Washington Wizards, especially since they do not really have a core they are building next to Beal and Westbrook now. Davis Bertans and Rui Hachimura are two solid players, but they are nothing more than role players and cannot lead this team when either Beal or Westbrook are out of the game.
Getting this kind of value for Westbrook would surely be something the Wizards would be interested in, especially since they would be receiving more value than they gave up to acquire the former league MVP.
Long-term, keeping Russell Westbrook does not really make much sense for the Wizards and if they miss the playoffs this year, expect them to shop the 9x All-Star point guard in the offseason.
