The best trade Knicks could offer Minnesota for Karl-Anthony Towns

Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves are terrible… that is the nice way of putting it. They have some great talents in Towns, D’Angelo Russell, emerging wing Malik Beasley and rookie Anthony Edwards, but overall, this team is really bad and they recently fired their head coach Ryan Saunders.

They currently hold the worst record in the league and that is likely not going to change between now and the end of the season. There is nothing that can be done to salvage this season for the Timberwolves and while they have some great talents, they are far from being a playoff threat in the Western Conference.

Karl-Anthony Towns has wasted the first five years of his career in Minnesota and after this season, he will be 26-years old and soon to be entering the prime of his career. He is too good of a player to waste years on a terrible team that has no chance of winning, which is why he could request a trade to the Knicks.

By making this trade with the Knicks, the Timberwolves get the one thing that they so desperately need and that is a future. Nobody knows what direction the T-Wolves are heading right now, but we do know they are trending downwards. They have made the playoffs just once since 2004 and really have not had any success.

Trading Towns and receiving five players all 23-years old or younger gives Minnesota plenty of young talent to rebuild with and potentially build something special. Obi Toppin and Immanuel Quickley are both rookies who have shown flashes of their full potential this year and Robinson, Knox and Ntilikina can all still grow into solid rotational players.

Not to mention, Minnesota would be receiving two first-round picks in 2021 that they can utilize to add more high-level and young talent to their roster. No matter what the Timberwolves do, they are not going to be anything more than a terrible team with Karl-Anthony Towns, which is why they should do what is best for him and trade him.

Towns is one of the best centers in the entire league, but in Minnesota, he has no chance to do anything special. The Timberwolves organization has been in shambles for years and if he wants to cement his legacy in the NBA and leave his mark, then he needs to go to the Knicks.
