Why This Trade Would Benefit The Dallas Mavericks
Mark Cuban has an owner who is interested in winning right away. He quickly shut down NBA trade rumors that the team was interested in trading Kristaps Porzingis but this is something we could see sooner than later.
In this deal, it would not be the blockbuster that turns them into contenders but it is one to continue to lengthen the lineup. Outside of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, the Mavericks have Tim Hardaway Jr. on the perimeter and could be looking for more. Porzingis is an intriguing trade piece because of his skill and his injury history.
The Mavericks made it a priority to improve defensively in the offseason but could use another wing defender like Thaddeus Young to add to their rotation. He could help substantially against elite wing players like Paul George or Kawhi Leonard and help Dallas to handle switching easier.

This is a low-risk, high-reward type move for Dallas. Young may not be an All-Star but he does a lot of things well that do not show up in the box score. He can help further the Mavericks’ defensive capabilities while also adding a playmaking element in short-roll situations.
