Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Cleveland Cavaliers
Kevin Love is owed $91.4M through the 2022-23 season, which is one of the main reasons why the Cavaliers should look to trade him if they can. With this organization looking to acquire young, high-level talents, Love does not fit in the long-term picture anymore, which is why if they get an offer for him, they should be more than willing to discuss the details of it.
In this deal, getting Nemanja Bjelica and Jabari Parker do not matter, as we mentioned before, but Cory Joseph definitely is an intriguing name for the Cavs. Their backcourt duo of Sexton and Garland is one of the best, young backcourts in the league, but outside of these two, there is nobody Cleveland can really turn to off-the-bench.
Collin Sexton is playing over 36 minutes per game this season, a career-high, and Darius Garland is averaging over 30 minutes per game since the Cavaliers do not really have any other backcourt options. Adding Cory Joseph definitely takes a lot of stress off of the young stars on the Cavaliers and gives them a veteran, experienced guard they can learn from.
While he has never been an All-Star type talent or a star player for any of his teams, Cory Joseph is a very reliable and solid point guard that is well-respected around the league. He has always been a great back-up point guard and given the time he has spent in the NBA, he could be the perfect mentor for both Sexton and Garland moving forward.

Not to mention, the Cavaliers also receive two second-round picks and a future first-round pick in this deal. The best thing this organization can do is to continue acquiring draft picks to draft young, high-level talents to build around their young core.
No big name free agents are going to want to go play in Cleveland at the moment, especially with LeBron James not being there, which is why they need to really focus on building this team from within. Collin Sexton is a fantastic player and both Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen are two great, young players to build around him, but the Cavs are still going to need to add more talent to their roster before becoming a real playoff threat.
