Why The Trade Benefits The Hornets

Terry Rozier was the first of the trio in Charlotte’s back-court to break out. He was signed in free agency and was expected to be their long-term point guard. With the emergence of LaMelo Ball and Devonte Graham, Rozier has quickly turned into the Hornets’ biggest and most intriguing trade piece.

Rozier is set to make $18.9 million this season and $17.9 million in 2021-2022. That is a large chunk of change for a rebuilding team, especially when they just signed Gordon Hayward to a four-year, $120 million contract.

Ball and Graham would man the back-court if Rozier is sent away. This is a good business move for the franchise. Also, Schroder and Harrell are starting caliber players that could step right into the lineup. They are also short-term options, which means the Hornets would have some options. That is important for a team looking to improve over the next few years.

It is going to be difficult for the Hornets to turn the corner in the Eastern Conference without making a deal or two. The team will have to hit on the ones they make and this could be the first of many moving forward.
