Why This Trade Would Benefits The Orlando Magic

Despite their trips to the postseason over the last two years, the Magic have not been taken seriously. They have been able to sneak in with low seeds and get a couple playoff games before their inevitable elimination. This season, the Orlando Magic had some hopes of competing but those have gone away in recent weeks.

Over the last month or so, Orlando has been a team with a decision to make. They were right in the middle of being buyers and sellers at the NBA trade deadline because of their current situation.

Now, that has become more clear. Orlando would not benefit from buying at the NBA trade deadline because they are not a team ready to win. They have plenty of assets such as Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier.

In this deal, the Magic would land short-term options in the backcourt and a young big man in Robert Williams III to replace Mo Bamba, who could learn from Nikola Vucevic. It could help Orlando to have different types of big men to field varying styles of units.

Draft capital and young assets — that is what Orlando should be focusing on moving forward. If they are going to sell at the deadline, there are plenty of deals out there for the starter they would be able to offer.
