This Knicks-Spurs trade is focused on DeMar DeRozan, Julius Rande

Why This Trade Would Benefit The New York Knicks

The Knicks have survived the first few weeks of the season on the backs of Randle and Barrett. That is not going to work over the course of an entire season and certainly not come playoff time. The Knicks have some strong role players that would benefit from having a star on the roster.

DeRozan knows a thing or two about leading a team. He did so during his time with the Toronto Raptors and is doing it again in San Antonio. He was allegedly unhappy with the situation within the franchise but no deal has been made just yet.

There is still plenty of time for DeMar DeRozan to join another team. The Knicks would be able to put DeRozan on the wing along with Barrett and rookie Immanuel Quickley. Losing Randle would be a blow but Mitchell Robinson would have to step up in the post.

This all comes down to what the front office wants to do with Randle. Fans might not like this trade but the roster they have constructed now is mediocre at best and will not do any serious contending. The NBA is about acquiring superstars and despite his age, DeRozan is still of star in this league.
