Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Indiana Pacers
With LeVert out indefinitely and TJ Warren’s return up-in-the-air, the Pacers will need to bring in some talent if they are truly going to be a threat in the Eastern Conference come playoff time. Bringing in Lonzo Ball would be a great move for this organization, especially since their play at point guard has been inconsistent over the years.
Malcolm Brogdon has emerged as a true All-Star talent with the absence of TJ Warren on the wing and while he is listed as a point guard this season, Brogdon is a much better overall player at shooting guard. Even with him being listed there, the future All-Star guard can still be the primary ball-handler for the Pacers with Lonzo Ball at point guard because of Ball’s abilities to play off-the-ball.
This season, the Pelicans normally have Ingram, Zion and Bledsoe being their three primary ball-handlers, which has caused Ball to play off-the-ball a lot this season. So far, he has had a lot of success doing so and in Indiana, he would split the “point guard” duties 50-50 with Malcolm Brogdon.
The thing about Lonzo Ball that makes him so unique and special is that he is not really a point guard. Sure, he can handle the ball really well and is a terrific passer, but he can also shoot, score, rebound and defend. His overall versatility makes him special and Indiana could really use an all-around talent.
After losing in the first-round of the playoff for five consecutive seasons, at full-strength, this Pacers team has a chance to take down some of the better teams in the Eastern Conference, but they will need that extra firepower in order to do so. Acquiring Lonzo Ball gives them that extra boost they need.
