Last season was Lonzo Ball’s first season in New Orleans, as he was sent to the Pelicans in the deal that sent Anthony Davis to the Lakers, and while he did perform well during the NBA regular season, there were a lot of concerns within the Pelicans organization about his lack of effort down the stretch.
Ball averaged 11.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.0 assists and shot 40.3% from the floor during the entire regular season for the Pelicans, but during the NBA restart in the Orlando Bubble, Lonzo Ball really struggled to produce and it looked like he could not be bothered to be there.
This season, Ball looks like locked in and has been on a tear the last few weeks. Ever since NBA trade rumors surfaced about the Pelicans willing to listen to offers for the young point guard, Ball has averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals and has shot 55.6% from three-point range.
He has quickly become the Pelicans third/fourth scoring option and as a result, could carry a hefty price tag with him into the NBA trade deadline. Plenty of teams could really utilize adding a young point guard with the skills that Ball has, especially the Indiana Pacers.
Indiana has struggled this year to find production from their backcourt outside of Malcolm Brogdon, who is having an NBA All-Star type season. Aaron Holiday has been very disappointing and TJ McConnell has struggled to shoot and score, which is why the Pacers are a dark horse team in the “Lonzo Ball sweepstakes.”
Could the Pacers actually pull off a trade to acquire the former No. 2 overall pick? Let’s take a look at what this trade between Indiana and New Orleans could possibly look like.
