Why This Trade Would Benefit The San Antonio Spurs
Unlike the Boston Celtics, the San Antonio Spurs are not a win-now team. They missed the postseason a year ago for the first time in 22 years and are looking to fight their way back. Even if they clinch of berth, the Spurs are not championship contenders so they should look toward retooling the roster.
This means getting rid of older players who are not a part of the future plan. LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan fit that bill. If they are able to get some promising young players back in return, it would be a victory. Also, Kemba Walker would join a back court that features Dejounte Murray.
This would allow one of them to play off the ball and contribute in a different way. Gregg Popovich is a coach who knows how to get the most out of his players and this is what he would do in developing the prospects coming over for the Celtics.
The Spurs have been one of the most successful franchises over the last two decades. This success can continue quickly if they make the right moves ahead of time.
