JaVale McGee – Cleveland Cavaliers
After receiving Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince in the James Harden trade, the Cleveland Cavaliers have an abundance of players in their frontcourt and as a result, they will likely move on from one or two of their big men. With JaVale McGee under contract for just this season and with him being owed $4.2M this season, he is a prime trade target for many playoff contenders around the league.
While he was once known as a “Shaqtin’ a Fool” regular, JaVale McGee has gained the respect of many around the league for being a hard-working and determined big man. You know what you are getting with the 33-year old veteran and as a result of his hard work, he has won three NBA championships over the last four seasons. How’s that for a “Not Top Play?”
Not only could McGee provide solid depth in the Suns frontcourt, but he could take a lot of pressure off of DeAndre Ayton. Given that Ayton is the only true big man on this Phoenix roster, come playoff time, they could really use a reliable big man to hold things down while Ayton is on the bench, which is why JaVale McGee makes a lot of sense for them.
He is a proven shot-blocker and a very physical rebounder, which is exactly what the Suns need coming off-the-bench. Through 19 games this season, the Suns’ bench ranks 29th in the league in total rebounds off-the-bench, which is why JaVale McGee could be so valuable to them.
If the Suns want to add frontcourt depth, then McGee should be the first player they look to trade for. With him being owed just $4.2M this season, they could easily move one or two of their smaller contracts and a second-round pick to acquire him.
