Why This Trade Would Benefits The New York Knicks

The New York Knicks have been signing veteran players to short-term contracts in recent years. This has opened up the opportunity for trades. Marcus Morris comes to mind. The Knicks signed him to a one-year deal last offseason and was sent to the Los Angeles Clippers for a first-round pick. New York might not get a first-rounder for Burks, but they could get some assets.

Burks is an elite three-point shooter but he is clearly not apart of the Knicks’ plan for the future. This was made clear by his one-year deal worth just $6 million. The Knicks have used veteran players as bridges in recent years. Burks seems to fit the mold that names like Bobby Portis had as well.

New York has plenty of draft capital moving forward and this would give them another pick that could be used in a future deal. Alfonzo McKinnie is a player with great size that would get a better chance to perform with the Knicks.

The Knicks have played some decent basketball without Burks this season. They are defending well this season under Tom Thibodeau, which is important given the fact that they are last in the league in scoring. The Knicks have some moves to make in the future and this is a small one to get started.
