John Collins

After missing the whole month of November last season with an injury, John Collins has entered the 2020-21 NBA season fully healthy and ready to make a huge impact with the Hawks. Last season, Collins had his best statistical season of his career, averaging 21.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and shooting 58.3% from the floor, 40.1% from three-point range in 41 games.

He has solidified himself as one of the most versatile power-forwards in the entire league and whether it is in the low-post or on the perimeter, John Collins can score from anywhere on the court. Collins is still on his rookie contract, meaning that the Cavs could easily absorb his contract, but he may come at a hefty price.

The Cavaliers would likely have to trade guys like Larry Nance Jr, Cedi Osman or even Kevin Love, as well as a lot of draft picks to be able to acquire John Collins, but the upside Collins brings to the table is what makes him such a valuable young player in the league.

While the Cavs do have a crowded frontcourt, especially after acquiring both Jarrett Allen and Taurean Prince, they would absolutely be willing to make room for Collins as he is one of the best young forwards in the league.

Given how successful Atlanta has been early on in the year and the fact that Collins is continuing to grow into a superstar type player next to Trae Young, it may not be in their best interest to trade for him at this time, but the Cavaliers should try to do everything they can to land him.

Bringing in John Collins solves a lot of the Cavs’ problems on the offensive end of the court and also gives them a high-level rebounder as well. But most importantly, acquiring John Collins gives the Cavaliers a solidified number two option next to Collin Sexton to build around for the foreseeable future.
