Why This Trade Would Benefit The Minnesota Timberwolves
One of the next NBA stars that appears in a position to want to ask out is Karl-Anthony Towns. The Minnesota Timberwolves invested $158.2 million in the big man over five years. If they decide to go through a reshaping of the franchise, Towns would get them a huge haul.
Minnesota currently has two players other than Towns averaging over 20 points per game. Russell is scoring 20.7 while Malik Beasley is contributing 20.2 points a night. Edwards and Jarrett Culver are prospects with high ceilings moving forward.
Minnesota would get a replacement big in Ayton and another intriguing prospect in Smith. The key to this deal, other than Ayton, would be the first-round draft capital. Three picks is a huge return and would continue the rebuild in Minnesota.
Towns is owed a ton of money on his contract. If he is truly disgruntled, it would make sense to send him away. Both sides would benefit from this trade if this is the case.
