Andre Drummond – C – Cleveland Cavaliers
After acquiring Andre Drummond at the NBA trade deadline last season, the Cleveland Cavaliers obviously had plans to include the former All-Star big man in their plans moving forward, but after acquiring Jarrett Allen from the Brooklyn Nets, Drummond’s days in Cleveland could be numbered.
In his 8-years in the NBA, Andre Drummond has constantly produced some impressive numbers, but never gets the credit he deserves. He is a 2x All-Star, led the league in rebounding four different seasons, and has averaged a double-double in points and rebounds in every season since his rookie season in 2012-13.
So far this year, the 6’10” big man has been Cleveland’s second-leading scorer and currently leads the league in rebounds with 15.1 rebounds per game. There are plenty of championship teams that could use an aggressive rebounder like Drummond and with him being in the final year of his contract, it makes things a little easier in terms of teams wanting to trade for him.
While they may still opt to keep Andre Drummond on their roster, even though they just acquired Jarrett Allen, it seems likely that he would be on the move since Allen is a young, up-and-coming center and now the future of the Cavs’ frontcourt situation.
With Drummond being in the final year of his contract, it seems hard to believe Cleveland would offer him a max-contract extension, especially since Kevin Love is under contract for years to come and they now have an abundance of centers on their roster.
Trading Andre Drummond for draft picks and youthful talent is what will likely occur on the Cavaliers’ side of things, which would go a long way in helping them finally build a youthful core that can compete for years to come.
