Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Dallas Mavericks
Acquiring Julius Randle gives the Mavericks a lot of options to play around with rotation wise, but it also makes them a much better transition team. Given Randle’s ability to run the court with or without the ball in his hands and his above-average abilities to run the court as a big man, Luka Doncic would have a field day finding him in the open court for fast-break points.
Next to Kristaps Porzingis in the frontcourt, Randle would like be slotted as a power-forward in their lineup, but it really would not matter as both guys would look to be dominant in the paint and also having the ability to step out on the perimeter here and there and knock down a three-pointer.
Hypothetically, adding Julius Randle to this Dallas Mavericks roster would give them a likely starting lineup of: Luka Doncic, Tim Hardaway Jr, Josh Richardson, Julius Randle and Kristaps Porzingis, assuming everyone is healthy. Then, with key guys like Trey Burke, Jalen Brunson, Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell coming off the bench, the Dallas Mavericks would have a legit playoff contending team on their hands.
The biggest thing for the Dallas Mavericks this year is that they do not have reliable scorers outside of Luka and Porzingis, which is why bringing in Julius Randle makes sense. He will not only open up the floor more for the Mavs current stars, but Randle is more than capable of leading the team when Luka or Kristaps are out of the game.
This team needs that third star player on its roster in order to be legit in the Western Conference and Julius Randle can be that guy. He is likely going to be an All-Star for the first time in his career this season, giving Dallas three potential All-Star level talents and a legit chance to dethrone the Los Angeles Lakers come playoff time.
