Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Chicago Bulls:

The Chicago Bulls may not be looking to trade Coby White at the moment, but being able to get a player like Lou Williams and draft assets in return could be exactly what they need to win now. Lou Williams is an established veteran player that the Bulls know what they would be getting with him, whereas Coby White is a wildcard, given that he is in his second year in the NBA and did not have a proper offseason to develop properly.

If Chicago wants to win now and be a borderline playoff team in the Eastern Conference, they will have to trade one of their young players for an established player like Lou Williams. Bringing in a scorer like Williams and pairing him in the backcourt with Zach LaVine could be very beneficial to the Bulls for numerous reasons.

Not only is Williams a great scorer, but he is also a great passer. Zach LaVine would still be the focal point of the Bulls offense and throughout the course of the season, big man Lauri Markkanen could also prove to be one of the better scoring options on the team in a new system.

Patrick Williams and Wendell Carter Jr. are also two younger and unproven talents, so Chicagi still have an abundance of youthful talent even if they were to trade Coby White. Not to mention, the draft compensation they would receive in this trade would be very beneficial as well.

There is no doubt that Chicago could easily package all three of these draft picks together to acquire one or two draft picks for the 2021 or 2022 NBA Draft, which gives the ability to keep bringing in youthful talent.

By freeing up some cap space since Lou Williams is in the final year of his contract, the Chicago Bulls would be in a position to re-sign Lauri Markkanen this offseason, as well as potentially make a move at some free agents since Otto Porter Jr.’s contract is also set to expire. Chicago needs to prove to upcoming free agents though that they can win games now in order to get them to sign with them.
