Since 2015, the Chicago Bulls have made the NBA playoffs just once, losing in the first-round to the Boston Celtics in 2017. Since that series loss, the Bulls have gone just 71-158 (31% win percentage) and have failed to eclipse 27 wins in a season.
After moving on from head coach Jim Boylen this offseason, Chicago hired Billy Donovan to be their 4th head coach in the last 7 seasons. Donovan has always been known to be a fantastic players coach, as he is most notably known for winning two national championships with the Florida Gators, but has had success over the years as the head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Coaching the likes of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Chris Paul, Donovan posted a 243-157 record (60.8% win percentage) and reached 40+ wins every season in Oklahoma City. Billy Donovan was named the co-recipient of the 2020 Michael H. Goldberg National Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year award with Bucks’ head coach, Mike Budenholzer, but was questionably let go by the Thunder.
With new management in place and a new head coach calling the shots, things look to be trending in the right direction for Chicago, but they still have a roster that has not won over 30 games since 2017. With lots of young players on the roster and not having an offseason to develop talent, this season could yet again be a losing one for the Bulls, as they have gotten off to a slow start on the season.
If the Bulls want to change their losing ways immediately, they need to be willing to trade one of their younger talents to bring in an established veteran who can help them win now.
Let’s take a look at a trade that would send Coby White to Los Angeles in exchange for draft picks and an established veteran scorer.
