4 teams who could pursue a blockbuster trade for Karl-Anthony Towns

After news broke about Klay Thompson’s injury, GM Bob Myers and the Warriors quickly scrambled to come up with a solution to Klay missing the entire season and while it will cost them a lot of money this year, the Warriors went “all-in” and traded for Kelly Oubre Jr. Last season with the Suns, Oubre had the best season of his career, averaging 18.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and shot 45.2% from the floor, including 35.2% from three-point range.

While guys like Oubre Jr. and Andrew Wiggins were slated to step up in the absence of Thompson, so far this season, things have not gone according to plan for the Warriors. They look like a very average, middle-of-the-pack team in the Western Conference and unless they go out and make a big move, they could be in danger of missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year.

Trading for Karl-Anthony Towns would be a “home run” acquisition for GM Bob Myers and the Golden State Warriors front office in terms of star-power and the trade package the Warriors would have to give up to acquire Towns. Not only would they likely have to send the Minnesota Timberwolves’ first-round pick in 2021 back to them in this trade, but they would have to send numerous first-round picks and likely Andrew Wiggins to make the financials of this deal work.

Trading Wiggins and a few first-round picks in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns could end up being very beneficial to the Warriors, even though they just drafted James Wiseman second-overall. Regardless of depth at positions and who is on the roster, having the ability to pair Towns up with Steph, Klay and Draymond when they are all healthy would be league-altering and put the Warriors in a position to maintain their dynasty for years to come.

Now come the questions about where guys like Kevon Looney, James Wiseman and Eric Paschall fit into the conversation for playing time. If the Warriors were able to land Towns, either Looney or Wiseman would see their minutes cut down tremendously, leading to one of them ultimately being traded.

The Warriors are very high on Wiseman, which is why Looney could be traded to free up cap space and possibly bring in a veteran wing, but that is besides the point. Getting Karl-Anthony Towns gives the Warriors plenty of options roster wise, which is something they do not have right now.

They are in a position where they need to do everything they can to win now and worry about the repercussions later. Towns would be a franchise changer for the Warriors and set them up for success for several years to come.
