Brooklyn Nets Receive: G Derrick Rose, G Rodney McGruder
Detroit Pistons Receive: F Taurean Prince, PHX 2021 2nd Round Pick (via BRK), BRK 2022 1st Round Pick
With Brooklyn being in the market for another point guard, especially with Spencer Dinwiddie going down and being out for the year, Derrick Rose seems like the first choice to come in and help this team win a championship. While Rose has suffered some major knee injuries during his career, he has finally worked himself back up to being a great player and a veteran guard who can contribute for a championship caliber team immediately.
In the last two seasons with Minnesota and Detroit, Derrick Rose has played in 101 games and has averaged 18.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and shot 48.6% from the floor. While he is not the player he once was, Derrick Rose can still contribute at a high-level and can make a difference for the Nets both on and off the court as a veteran leader.
Rodney McGruder is also an interesting name that could be added to this trade to make the money work. McGruder is nothing more than a veteran bench player for the Detroit Pistons and seeing as he has a minimal role with the franchise, the Nets could use him to provide depth on the wing. While he may not see the court much, he is a great end of the bench kind of player for depth and is a solid overall perimeter shooter, shooting 33.6% from deep over the course of his career.
Taurean Prince has seemed to get buried on the Nets roster behind wing shooters as Brooklyn has gone with a smaller, high-volume shooting lineup. Prince played well last season, playing in 64 games for Brooklyn and averaging 12.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and shooting 33.9% from three-point range.
With him being owed $29M through the 2021-22 season, it would make sense for Brooklyn to trade him, especially if they do not see him having a major role this year. Along with the two NBA Draft picks, Prince would make his way to Detroit where they are rebuilding and could use a young forward like Prince.
If Brooklyn is targeting a point guard via trade, Derrick Rose has to be at the top of their list as he is extremely affordable and worth a first-round pick, especially since they will be without Spencer Dinwiddie. Let’s take a closer look as to why this trade makes sense for both the Brooklyn Nets and the Detroit Pistons.
