At The End Of The Day, He Is Still LeBron James
For almost two decades now, LeBron James has been one of the most dominant players in NBA history. Whether it is scoring, passing or rebounding, he does it all for his team and is always looking for ways to get better.
Whether you like him or not, LeBron is one of the greatest basketball players to ever play in the NBA and has achieved this feat in his own way. We do not need to go on and on talking about what makes LeBron James such a dominant player, but we do need to discuss why he could win the MVP award this season.
There is no such thing as a down year for LeBron James as any year where his numbers may be down, they are still better than 99% of the rest of the league. If the Los Angeles Lakers go out there this season, with James leading them and they win 60+ games during the course of the 72-game season, it will be extremely hard not to give James the MVP award.
Winning exactly 60 games this season is equivalent of winning about 68 games during an 82-game season. Only 6 teams have won 68+ games during the regular season and of those 6 teams, 4 of them contained the league MVP. The only two teams in this select group that did not have the MVP on their team was the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers and the 1996-97 Chicago Bulls, even though Michael Jordan deserved to win the MVP award over Karl Malone.
If the Lakers win 60+ games, LeBron James needs to be awarded the 2020-21 NBA MVP award hands down as this team goes as far as he is able to take them, regardless of the talent on the roster. LeBron James will continue to be one of the most dominant players in NBA history this year and will once again have his team competing for a championship.
