Why the Trade Benefits the Denver Nuggets
The Denver Nuggets put together an admirable run in the NBA bubble but ultimately came up short to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. As a team, they are close but ultimately could use a boost to get over the hump.
This trade makes the most sense if the Nuggets do indeed believe that Bradley Beal is the necessary piece to put them over the top for an NBA championship. Otherwise, making short-term sacrifices in the height of the LeBron James/Lakers era may not be the best option.
It could be risky to move on from Michael Porter Jr. when considering health was the only reason he wasn’t a No. 1 overall pick caliber of player. He’s that type of talent and has a skill-set as a forward that isn’t easy to find whatsoever.
The explosive scoring potential of a backcourt consisting of Jamal Murray and Bradley Beal would be quite enticing for any team. Especially for this Nuggets team who has an elite facilitator in the middle of the floor in Nikola Jokic to tie the whole unit together.
