Why the Trade Benefits the Washington Wizards
It’s very difficult to find a forward with the shot creation ability of Michael Porter Jr. and if the Washington Wizards want to rebuild, he’d be a great player to target in a potential deal for Bradley Beal.
Another intriguing prospect in this trade package is RJ Hampton. He would be able to help fill the void left behind by Beal directly at the shooting guard position but wouldn’t be needed to do immediately. Gary Harris would slot in alongside Russell Westbrook in the backcourt right away.
The first round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft the Wizards would receive from the Denver Nuggets almost surely wouldn’t be all that valuable. However, next year’s draft class is supposed to be strong and would be another asset for Washington to use to even trade up if they had interest.
Overall, there is a solid stopgap option at shooting guard in Harris along with two intriguing young players. That type of return would be particularly favorable for the Wizards when considering Beal is not a superstar caliber player.
