Why the Trade Benefits the Houston Rockets
Moving on from James Harden would not be an easy decision for the Houston Rockets but being able to land some intriguing players makes the idea easier. Zach LaVine has emerged as a true high-volume scorer at the shooting guard position while Lauri Markkanen has shown flashes.
With Christian Wood manning the center position, Markkanen would slot in at the four spot. Both players possess a skill-set that would formulate an impactful frontcourt combination, especially alongside John Wall. All the while DeMarcus Cousins would bully defenses off the bench.
There isn’t much for NBA Draft compensation involved in this trade scenario for the Rockets. Especially when factoring in the first-round pick would be for the 2021 NBA Draft and it’s from the Boston Celtics. Regardless, the package is interesting since it involves LaVine and Markkanen.
The main need the Rockets would face after this trade would be a long-term answer at the small forward position. That was a need prior to this scenario as well though. Overall, Houston would remain competitive in the Western Conference barring any major injuries.
