How the Trade Works for the Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons currently appear to be in a limbo period of transition as a franchise. It’s clear the team will look to build around younger talents on the team and could look to move some of the veterans they have. With Derrick Rose being on an expiring deal, he sits atop this list.
When factoring in how the Pistons used the No. 7 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft to bring in Killian Hayes, it’s clear the team already has a long-term answer at point guard. Having Rose come off the bench certainly is an option but it’s not necessarily a need in a rebuild.
The Pistons already moved on from Andre Drummond before last year’s NBA trade deadline. It would be a strange situation if Detroit doesn’t continue to capitalize on the trade value of veterans on expiring deals when considering his extensive history with the franchise.
Gaining a 2022 first-round pick from the Golden State Warriors would be a nice asset for the Pistons to add into the mix. The Warriors’ core group is getting older and has dealt with injuries— causing them to not be the same elite team they once were.
