Season Outlook
Anything other than a championship this season will be a disappointment for everyone involved with the Lakers organization because of how well-rounded their roster is. They have 9 guys who can go out on any given night and score in double-figures and they got better defensively. They have perimeter shooters that will make them one of the better three-point shooting teams in the league, they have arguably the best defensive big man in the NBA in Anthony Davis, and with LeBron James showing no signs of slowing down, there is no reason why this team should not win the 2020-21 NBA title.
Even with injuries, this team has the ability to have the “next man up” mentality and feel very comfortable with whoever steps into a bigger role. Dennis Schroder is really going to change the dynamic of this team from a year ago and his impact with the Lakers will be felt on opening night.
Schroder is such a good point guard in the sense that he possesses a very high basketball IQ and will be able to have his way with opponents as the third best scoring option on the team. Teams will not be able to focus as much attention on him as they do on LeBron James and Anthony Davis and as a result, Dennis Schroder could wind up having his best statistical season of his career with the Lakers.
There is no argument, they are the team to beat not only in the Western Conference but in the entire NBA and while they may have their struggles at some point in the season, come time for playoffs, they will be the team that everyone else is chasing. It will really take a lot to dethrone a team led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis from the top of the NBA and when this season is all said and done, it should not come as a surprise to anyone if the Lakers raise the Larry O’Brien Trophy once again.
