Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Heat
On the other side of the trade, the Heat would be improving their bench in a big way. Kendrick Nunn may have more long-term potential, but Miami is looking to win now. Derrick Rose could certainly help them accomplish that goal.
Miami was able to bring Goran Dragic back in free agency and they also re-signed Meyers Leonard. Unfortunately, they lost Jae Crowder to the Phoenix Suns. However, they were able to pick up Avery Bradley to help replace him and they still have Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo leading the way.
Rose is not a good defender, but the Heat don’t necessarily need defense. They need as much offense as they can get. If Dragic goes down or needs to play a smaller role to stay healthy and fresh, Rose would be able to step up.
Not only would he be valuable for those situations, his ability to create his own shot and get to the rim would come in handy. He can also create open looks for his teammates. Rose would check quite a few boxes for the Heat.
If this trade is a possibility, the Heat should absolutely pursue it. Rose may not power the Heat to a championship, but he would be a nice step in the right direction.
