Why the Trade Benefits the Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks have made it clear that they are interested in competing. This was the feeling heading into the offseason and is why they have been linked to many players. With their new addition of veteran players, the Hawks want to climb their way up the conference.
Rajon Rondo and Trae Young are going to be a strong backcourt come the postseason, if the Hawks are able to qualify. Rudy Gay would be another veteran player with postseason experience that they would be able to add to the roster.
Also, they would add two future-first round picks in this deal where they could continue to land strong prospects to go along with Young and Onyeka Okongwu. All the while having Danilo Gallinari slide into the power forward spot alongside Clint Capela in the short-term.
The Hawks are certainly trending in the right direction this offseason. By trading John Collins, the team would avoid having to pay substantial money to a player seeking a max contract who doesn’t have the skill-set of a player who can earn that much and have their team be highly successful.
