Nets still expected to re-sign sharpshooter Joe Harris

The Brooklyn Nets have been mentioned in a ton of trade rumors already this offseason. Originally, Jrue Holiday appeared to be their top target, but lately all the hype has been about James Harden joining forces with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. While Joe Harris is not a big name compared to those players, he is still a name to keep a close eye on.

According to a report from Ian Begley of SNY, the Nets are still expected to end up re-signing the sharpshooting Harris when free agency opens up.

Harris has been a hot under-the-radar topic ahead of free agency. Teams like the Atlanta Hawks have been rumored to have major interest in signing him. However, Harris has always wanted to remain with the Nets if possible.

During the 2019-20 NBA season with the Nets, Harris ended up averaging 14.5 points per game to go along with 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He shot 48.6 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 42.4 percent of his three-point attempts.

Keeping Harris is a major priority for the Nets. They need to make sure to have shooting around Durant and Irving. Even if they bring in Harden, the Nets still need to have shooters spaced out around the perimeter.

At 29 years old, there are very few shooters around the league better than Harris right now. His shooting ability is going to get him paid.

Granted, if the Nets do end up acquiring Harden, they may not be able to pay Harris the money he wants. That could jeopardize their ability to bring the shooting guard back. If he does leave, the Hawks and Suns could make sense, along with quite a few other potential suitors.

Only time will tell where Joe Harris will play the next chapter of his career. With that being said, expect him to end up returning to the Nets.
