Clippers, Nets, Pistons execute three-team draft night trade

The Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons, and Brooklyn Nets have all been looking to be active throughout the 2020 NBA Draft. Now, they have come together on a big-time trade that includes Landry Shamet, Luke Kennard, and the No. 19 overall pick.

According to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Nets are sending the No. 19 overall pick to the Pistons and will receive Shamet from the Clippers. Los Angeles will be getting Kennard.

Needless to say, this is a very intricate and intriguing trade between the three teams. All three teams are getting pieces that could help them this season and in the future.

For the Clippers, Luke Kennard is a capable three-point threat and had a solid 2019-20 campaign with the Pistons. He averaged 15.8 points per game to go along with 4.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds. Kennard shot 44.2 percent from the field and 39.9 percent from three-point range.

Landry Shamet played a bench role with the Clippers last season. He averaged 9.3 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.9 rebounds per game. In addition to those numbers, he shot 37.5 percent from three-point range and can play solid perimeter defense.

Finally, the Pistons are acquiring another draft pick. They took Killian Hayes with the No. 7 overall pick and big man Isaiah Stewart with the No. 16 overall. With the No. 19 pick, they decided to take forward Saddiq Bey.

All things said, these three teams have to be happy with the trade. They moved pieces that they weren’t going to use and acquired pieces that they are. It isn’t a huge blockbuster deal, but it’s a solid all-around move.
