Celtics working on major trade up into top-three of 2020 NBA Draft

There have been five 1st round selections already traded ahead of the 2020 NBA Draft but none within the lottery. The Boston Celtics could change that if they manage to get their way to select an intriguing prospect.

According to the New York Times’ Marc Stein, the Celtics keep searching for trade pathways to land a top-three position in the 2020 NBA Draft.

The most likely prospect the Celtics are eyeing by trading up within the top-three is James Wiseman. It’s difficult to envision LaMelo Ball or Anthony Edwards being viewed as fits when considering the already complete combination of talents Boston has on the perimeter.

There is a glaring need for the Celtics to address the center position with a more dynamic player. The hope likely is that at 7-foot-1, Wiseman would be able to provide needed size and athleticism against the likes of Joel Embiid and Bam Adebayo in the Eastern Conference.

It remains to be seen if the Celtics will be able to trade up all the way to top-three when considering they are at No. 14 in the 2020 NBA Draft order. Boston previously made an attempt to get up to No. 8 with the New York Knicks— getting rebuffed in their efforts.

The Charlotte Hornets and Golden State Warriors each seem to value James Wiseman at No. 1 on their NBA Draft boards— making a potential trade up to land the Memphis product a difficult proposition. Unless, of course, a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the No. 1 pick was to occur.
