3. Al Horford, Philadelphia 76ers
Horford signed a four-year, $109 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers last offseason. They brought Horford in to try and solidify their center position against teams like the Boston Celtics, but it has been a complete failure.
The humorous thing is that Horford might not be the worst contract on the team. The Sixers also gave Tobias Harris a max deal and that is looking worse and worse.
Horford must be on the NBA trade market this offseason. In 2020-2021, Horford would carry a $27.5 million cap hit for the team. Horford is not the player he once was. He would thrive more in a backup role, but is forced to be a main piece because of his contract.
Yes, Doc Rivers is taking over in Philadelphia, but it is hard to imagine Horford benefitting much from the coaching change. This would not only benefit Horford, but the 76ers’ organization if they can find a trading partner for the center.
