Why the Trade Benefits the Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors could potentially be losing Fred VanVleet in free agency. This leaves an empty spot in the backcourt alongside Kyle Lowry. Oladipo would be a nice rental until the 2021 free agent period where Ujiri could make a run at some big name stars.
Oladipo would be able to contribute to a team with championship aspirations. The Raptors have emerged as one of the favorites for the Indiana product and for good reason. This would be a perfect fit in the backcourt and along with Pascal Siakam.
Oladipo is a two-way player who can take over a game offensively. He can replace VanVleet and perform better in some aspects of the game— assuming the two-time All-Star can recover more of his pre-injury form.
The Raptors need to look into this deal, especially if they are not asked to give up much. It’s an intriguing opportunity to take a chance on a star player who is on an expiring deal— minimizing the potential risk.
