Why the Trade Benefits the Houston Rockets
If the Houston Rockets want to set themselves up well for the future, it’s better to not wait to start rebuilding until it’s too late. The reigning champion Lakers along with the Clippers and Warriors will be too much for just Harden and role players to compete with.
Part of the complication with the Rockets’ recent maneuvers to maximize their roster around Harden has been their reliance on using 1st round selections to complete trades. This trade would help recoup some of their depleted NBA Draft selections.
Being able to build around a backcourt with Spencer Dinwiddie and Caris LeVert would be a solid option for the Rockets. Both players showed intriguing signs in larger roles with the Brooklyn Nets.
The Rockets gave up Clint Capela via trade in an effort to be better equipped to win with Russell Westbrook. Now that a big man is necessary to man the middle— an option like Jarrett Allen would be intriguing.
